THE 26 newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly has elected Tongatapu 3 constituency MP Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni as Tonga's new Prime Minister Designate for the next four years.

MEETING TO ELECT THE PRIME MINISTER TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 15 DECEMBER

The Interim Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Rt. Hon. Lord Tangi, has confirmed that the meeting of the Elected Representatives to elect the Prime Minister is to be held on Wednesday 15 December 2021, 10am at the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

TWO PRIME MINISTER CANDIDATE NOMINATIONS RECEIVED

At the close of the period for receiving nominations of candidates for the position of Prime Minister at 4.30pm today, a total of two nominations have been received at the Office of the Interim Speaker of Parliament. The first nomination was received on Monday 13 December, and the second nomination was received today. The candidates will be revealed at the meeting of the elected representatives to elect the Prime Minister Designate that will be held tomorrow, Wednesday 15 December at 10am.
