THE Legislation Standing Committee’s public consultation into Government six Bills now gets underway in Vava’u.
 
Last night villagers of Kameli and nearby towns gathered at the Fakamelino Hall where they were briefed on the proposed amendments. 
 
The Legislation Standing Committee is led by Chairman, Hon. Samiu Vaipulu and other Members including the Hon. Justice Minister, Sione Vuna Fa’otusia and the Niuas Noble Representative, Lord Fusitu’a.
 
Parliament’s Legal Counsel, Silivia ‘Atiola and Senior Legal Officer, ‘Anisi Finau also conducted a powerpoint presentation, explaining and summarising the Bills. Question and answer session was also provided during the public forum.
 
A total of five public meetings is scheduled for Vava’u with the next one at Falaleu, Nāsaleti Hall at 6:00 this evening. Other meetings have also been organised for the following places and venues.
 
Wednesday (May 8) - Ha'alaufuli, 'Alu he Lotu Hall
 
 Thursday, May 9) - Leimatu'a, Silakivai Hall
  
Falaite (May 10) - Longomapu, Mana'ia ko Saione Hall
A two-day public consultation programme is also set for Ha'apai next week (May 13 & 14).
 
Similarly, 14 public meetings have been arranged for Tongatapu from May 15-22 and two meetings for 'Eua on May 24.
Meanwhile, the general public from Tonga and abroad have also been invited to send written submissions and address to “Komiti Lao ‘a e Fale Alea, ʻŌfisi ʻo e Fale Aleá. All written submissions must be received by Parliament no later than May 24.
