THE Hon. Prime Minister has tested positive for COVID-19.

Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni confirmed this in his Facebook post yesterday (Saturday, March 12).

He is now in isolation with his family members for the mandatory health quantity period.

Reports from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) say the Hon. Prime Minister “will continue to conduct his duties and responsibilities through technologies, a measure that he has been actively promoting in preparation for, and since the onset of community transmission of COVID19 in the Kingdom.

The business of Government and services to the people will continue as the response and recovery from the volcanic eruption/tsunami and managing the COVID-19 outbreak remain the principal priorities for the Hon. Prime Minister and Cabinet,” according to a statement from PMO.

Meanwhile his symptoms are mild, and he accredits this to his vaccination, having been fully vaccinated and boosted.

The Hon. Prime Minister encourages all Tongans to be vaccinated and boosted, and to remain vigilant in observing the COVID-19 prevention measures and practices.

“We are now adjusting our lives and affairs as we learn to live with COVID-19 and I will continue to serve His Majesty, Government and our People during my time in isolation,” the PM said.
