The 26th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth opened on the 4th of January in Canberra, Australia. The Conference brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth including the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

THE UNICEF Pacific Representative Mr. Jonathan Veitch this morning paid a courtesy call on the Clerk of Parliament Gloria Pole’o.

As the UNICEF Pacific Representative, he oversees UNICEF’s programmes and operations in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu including Tonga.

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY’S CURRENT SESSION WILL CONTINUE


The Legislative Assembly’s current session will not close on 8 December 2022. Instead, the House will continue to sit as required in order to deal with parliamentary businesses. The current session will therefore run into the year 2023.

THE Legislative Assembly parliamentary session 2022 will be officially closed next Thursday, Dec 8th.
