The Office of the Interim Speaker of the Legislative Assembly confirms that nominations for Prime Minister designate closed today at 4.30pm.
As at 4.30pm today, two nominations for the Prime Minister designate had been received. The first nomination was received by the Chief Clerk, Gloria Pole’o, yesterday at the Parliament Office at about 2pm from Vili Manuopangai Faka’osiula Hingano, People’s Representative for Ha’apai No. 12.
The second nomination was received by the Chief Clerk today at about 9.30am from Dr. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa, People’s Representative for Tongatapu No. 10.
Both nominations remain in sealed envelopes, which will be opened to reveal the nominees on the day of the meeting of the elected Representatives.
The ballot box containing the nominations has been transferred to the Treasury strong room for safe and secure keeping until the day of the meeting.
The date and time of the meeting to elect the Prime Minister designate will be officially announced and released to the public and media at 9am tomorrow, Wednesday 24 December 2014.
The meeting to elect the Prime Minister designate will be accessible to all media to facilitate live broadcasting on the radio, television and live streaming on the internet. Invitations to attend the meeting and rules to be adhered to by the media will also be released tomorrow.
