A traffic accident along Vuna Road last Saturday has claimed one life.
The victim is a 19 year old man of Ma’ufanga.
The Minister of Police, Hon. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa reveals this in Parliament earlier today.
Reports from Tonga Police say the victim was in a vehicle that was travelling in a westerly direction along Vuna Road when it swerved and hit the cement fence of Kalaniuvalu’s residence.
Tu’i’onetoa says four passengers were on board the vehicle when the accident occurred. Three men are in critical condition at Vaiola Hospital.
According to Police, the driver of the vehicle has been charged with negligent driving and other traffic violation charges.
In another development, the Minister of Police also reported an armed robbery incident at Tofoa last Friday. Tu’i’onetoa says the incident occurred between 10 and 11pm Friday night at a Chinese shop, situated opposite the flea market at Tofoa.
He said it is believed two armed masked men were involved in the robbery. Information from Salote Tonga of the Tonga Police say the owner of the Chinese shop reports up to $4000 were reportedly stolen.
The police promptly investigate the matter and managed to get hold of the getaway vehicle. One alleged robber has been arrested while the other one is still at large.
Tu’i’onetoa urges the general public to take precautionary measures in safeguarding their properties.
Police investigation continues.
