A by-election has been set for August 31 for the election of a new Noble Representative of the Niuas.
Lord Fakafanua confirmed this during an interview with John Pulu of Niu FM yesterday.
A writ of election was issued to the Election Commission on August 7.
Three Nobles are eligible to run for the vacant seat for the two northernmost islands in Parliament includes Lord Fusitu’a, Lord Tangipa and Lord Fotofili.
The seat of Niua’s Noble Representative became vacant last Thursday (August 6). This is according to section 7 of the Legislative Assembly where a Member can lose his seat in Parliament if absent from the Assembly for more than 12 consecutive months.
Lord Fusitu’a has been absent from meetings since August 5, 2019.
