HIS Majesty has revoked the ministerial appointment of the Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA), Hon. Fe’ao Vakata effective on Tuesday September 13, 2016.
This follows a submission of recommendation from the Prime Minister, Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva to the King on Monday (September 12) to revoke the appointment of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Yesterday, a letter from the Lord Chamberlain conveyed his Majesty’s approval to assent to the PM’s recommendation in accordance with clause 51 (3) (a) of the Constitution.
Reports from the Prime Minister’s Office say the Hon. Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva wrote to Vakata last Saturday to voluntarily resign from his position as Cabinet Minister, by 12pm noon on Monday, September 12, 2016.
However the Hon Prime Minister did not hear from the Minister for Internal Affairs until yesterday and prompted his recommendation to the King for the revocation of Mr. Vakata’s ministerial appointment as the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The then MIA Minister tendered his resignation to the Hon. Prime Minister yesterday.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vakata maintains his seat as the Niua’s People Representative.
