A soft closing ceremony today at the Legislative Assembly of Tonga marks the end of 2016/2017 sitting.
Three Nobles of the Realm officially closed the current parliamentary sitting.
They were Lord Luani, His Serene Highness Tungi and Lord Fakatulolo.……
In conveying the messages from the throne on behalf of his Majesty, HSH Tungi thanks the Almighty for keeping the Hon. Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers, Noble and People Representatives alive for this occasion to mark the end of the current parliamentary session.
HSH says MPs have now completed their tasks and duties for 2016/2017 session, therefore it is crucial their attention is focused on issues relating to the best interest and stability of the nation. This includes education, economic and social issues.

HSH also thanked the nationwide love and support for the passing of her late Queen Mother, her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata’aho
The Legislative Assembly reconvenes in January for the House to consider emergency public Bills, Government Regulations and Annual Reports as well as constituency parliamentary visit reports.
It was also for the MPs to discuss the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister, which was defeated in Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament, Lord Tu’ivakano announces today the House will officially open for its 2017/2018 sittings on June 1.
