INTERIM Speaker Rt Hon. Lord Tupou officially announces the two nominations for the Prime Minister in Parliament this morning.
The first nomination submitted by Ha'apai 12 constituency MP, Vili Hingano on December 22, is caretaker Deputy Prime Minister, Samiu Kuita Vaipulu.
The second nomination for PM which was submitted by Tongatapu 10 constituency MP, Dr. Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa is Tongatapu 1 MP, Samuela 'Akilisi Pohiva.
All newly elected MPs attended today's special sitting of the House.
Diplomatic corps, Senior Government Officials, church leaders and MPs' spouses were amongst other invited guests who attended today's occasion.
The program continued with the PM two contenders providing speeches to the House.
In addressing the House, Mr. Pohiva pledged to serve all and Tonga to help alleviate poverty, hardship and challenges at home.
On the other hand, Mr. Vaipulu highlighted that we can do it all to help build our economy through close collaboration of all different sectors in our society.
He also spoke on the need to address women issues and the importance of fighting and eliminating corruption to meet the people’s most urgent needs.
Other MPs of the House are also given a chance to make speeches in support of their nominees.
