MORE than 10 international form six students of Tupou College today visited Parliament as part of their visitation program to historical sites including the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The purpose of their site visit is to broaden and further their understanding on the roles and functions of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

Deputy Clerk of Parliament Dr. Sione Vikilani led the program and was assisted by the Table’s Clerk Tupou Manuofetoa and Executive Officer Hortensie Ngalu.

The form six international students were provided with information on the works of Parliament and how it operates, including the Bills process.

They also visited the Parliament’s library where parliamentary records including committee reports and Hansard and other important documents are kept as old as dating back to 1845.

Committee researchers ‘Alisi ‘Akau’ola and Papaha’amea Kalaniuvalu briefed the students on the library record system and resources available in the library which are used to aid MPs in their legislative work.

Parliament is open for school visits, youth and other group tours and the public but they must first contact the Office of the Legislative Assembly.

This is the first school visit to Parliament for 2024.
