PARLIAMENT MEETING TO TABLE THE MOTION FOR A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE PRIME MINISTER IS NOW POSTPONED TO MONDAY 9 DECEMBER 2024
The meeting of the Legislative Assembly where the Motion for a Vote of No Confidence in the Prime Minister Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni will be tabled and considered, is now postponed from Tuesday 3 December 2024 to Monday 9 December 2024. The postponement was approved by a resolution of Parliament that was obtained through circulation to Members of Parliament. This is to facilitate the Hon. Prime Ministerʻs request to the House for an extension of time to submit a written reply to the No Confidence Motion. The Lord Speaker had given the Hon. Prime Minister until 12 noon Friday 29 November 2024 to submit a written reply. The Hon. Prime Minister now has until 12noon on Wednesday 4 December 2024 to provide a written reply to the Motion.
The tabling of the No Confidence Motion in Parliament on Monday 9 December 2024 is still well within the legal timeframe for tabling the motion as specified in clause 50B of the Constitution as well as the Rules of Procedures of the Legislative Assembly.
