THE Legislative Assembly of Tonga is hosting a two-week Budget Analysis Mission 2024 which gets underway in Nuku’alofa today thanks to the kind support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The mission known as the Pacific Floating Budget Office brings together collective resources of individual parliamentary capacities from across the Pacific region including New Zealand and Australia to assist the Legislative Assembly of Tonga as they prepare for the 2024-2025 budget.

Nine researchers from six Parliaments in the Pacific including Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are here to assist Team Tonga in preparing a simple and easy to digest budget analysis information to the MPs on the Budget Estimate.

The Deputy Clerk of Parliament Dr. Sione Vikilani this morning warmly welcomed the nine Parliament researchers for their presence here to assist the team from the Legislative Assembly of Tonga. He said they play a crucial role in providing easy to understand information to help Members of Parliament as they prepare to debate on the 2024/2025 budget.
